About me: Alisa Hughes
My name is Alisa Hughes and I am 24 years old. I graduated from Christopher Newport University in May of 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies with a Minor in Leadership Studies. During that time, I volunteered often at the Boys and Girls Club of Newport News and frequently helped the children with their homework. Between the years of 2007-2012 I worked as a Swimming Instructor at Little Fish Swimming in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I taught swim classes with children of all ages and it was then that I discovered my passion for teaching children. I began my journey to become a teacher in 2013 by completing various prerequisite classes at Germanna Community College and was accepted into University of Mary Washington's Masters Program in Elementary Education in the Spring of 2014. I am currently in my first semester at UMW and plan to graduate in the Summer of 2016. Along with my classes this semester, I partook in a practicum experience in which I assisted Ms. Jennifer Glasgow with her 2nd grade class at Brock Road Elementary. I observed her teaching methods and created and taught a lesson of my own to the class. I will be doing three more practicum experiences and a Student Teaching Internship throughout my time at UMW .
